101 News Podcast Season 2 Episode 7

by Ren Slavin August 02, 2024

Welcome back to 101 NEWS, the podcast within a podcast bringing you the latest news and updates from the Marketing world.

This week, we will be covering updates from Instagram, X and YouTube, as well as the lowdown on email marketing.

Social Media Updates

As always, Instagram has unveiled a bout of new features to be tried and tested.

A ‘superlike’ feature will be coming to the platform. Have you ever liked someone’s story so much that you wanted to like it a further 50 times? Well, have no fear, as the app is experimenting with story super likes. Users will only be able to send one of these super likes a day, so make it count.

Adam Mosseri, head of IG was also asked if there was a way that a user could be added to a post as a collaborator after it has been posted, as currently, you can only add them as you’re posting it. He stated that it was an oversight on their part, and that they should try and fix it, so watch this space.

Twitter, no sorry, X, is now working on a feature that would allow users to sort post replies in-stream, helping to highlight the most relevant ones.

The platform is also allowing users to stop auto-playing the next videos when watching video content. Things have been fairly quiet in the world of X, but the smaller updates are making the platform a lot more friendlier for users.

As for YouTube, they are testing a community space feature that will allow both creators and viewers to share posts and interact with each other.

Email Marketing

Email Marketing has a lot of negative stigma attached to it, from being labelled as spam or uninteresting, or to being a waste of time. But we are here to debunk that myth, as email marketing is such a pivotal tool in your arsenal.

Curating a consolidated email newsletter for your audience can serve so many different purposes. It can help build and engage your audience, draw in new sales from product or service highlights and exclusive, subscriber-only discount codes, and it allows you to tailor your marketing to specific segments.

It’s also a super-useful way to get people talking. Whether you’re following in Ann Summer’s footsteps by sending out an email with a discount code that looks like it was only meant to be sent to staff, or making the most of current trends (I lost count of the number of emails I received from brands offering football-related discounts in the England V Spain Euros final the other week).

So if it’s not something you’re doing already, have a think about how it could benefit you and your business. As ever, give us a shout if you have a burning question – we’d love to help!

Meme of the Week

In case you’ve missed the news recently, former US President, Donald Trump, was targeted in an assassination attempt. Naturally, the internet followed suit with an abundance of memes, bringing us our Meme of the Week.

Online users have been creating images depicting Trump dodging bullets Matrix-style, as a superhero, and in many other compromising positions.

That concludes this fortnight’s roundup!
