Take your email marketing to the next level!

by alex@alexryanuk.com August 19, 2021

Email marketing is an essential way to grow your business. When a customer buys something from you, it is vital that you keep them around for as long as possible and build a lasting relationship with them. A great email marketing strategy will do just that for you.

Programs to use

The first step to successful email marketing is choosing the right software to use. You have a variety of softwares available to you such as Mailchimp or Hubspot which are two great programs for your email marketing campaign. Mailchimp will be free for up to 2000 email addresses and therefore is perfect for small businesses and startups. While Hubspot is also free at the start and then you can choose to upgrade to one of their pro plans which include a lot more than just email marketing. Both are amazing tools to use in your email marketing strategy.

Scout the market

To launch a successful email marketing campaign, you must first get to know what everyone else is doing in order to take it and improve upon it. Go ahead and subscribe to a few big companies such as Nike or Chanel and see what they are doing as they are the best in the business when it comes to email marketing. So have a look, see what they do and see what you can take from them and implement into your strategy.

Next it’s time to have a look at what’s popular. Things are popular for a reason and therefore if there is a trend that you can utilize in order to temporarily boost your campaign, then do it. However, don’t just rely on trends should only form part of your strategy as they do change and disappear – focus on what works for you.

Now you know what the really big companies are doing, what’s trending and popular. Next up is checking out your competition, subscribe to a couple of marketing emails from your competition and see what they’re doing. If they are more successful than you then take some of their strategies and turn them into something you could use for yourself.

You have gained all this information about the industry so now what? Well now it’s time for you to apply it all into your own email marketing campaign. Take all that you have learned about the market and put it all into your campaign to make it as successful as possible.

How to write your email

Since you have an idea of what you wanna do, now it’s time to put it all together into your email campaign. When it comes to designing it. Mailchimp provides you with some templates you can use or you can just make your own email from scratch if you have an idea of what you want to do.

Content-wise, it’s all about trial and error. Test, test and then test some more. See what type of content is getting received the best and work around it. There are going to be times when your open rates are nice and high but also times when your open rates will be a bit low. Don’t let this demotivate you and instead use it as something you can learn from and test another type of content.

There are things which boost your open rates such as giveaways, discounts and etc. you don’t however want to be relying on these. Use them sparingly, at the start perhaps a discount for all new customers or add some sort of loyalty scheme to keep your customers around. The rest of the content is up to you and depending on what products/services you provide to your customers.

Subject lines are the first thing your customer is going to see when they receive your email. There is no such thing as the perfect subject line that will guarantee a 100% email opening rate. Therefore, it is once again time for trial and error. Test a couple different subject lines and see what ones are getting the most open rates. See how many emojis to use, what to say (maybe add a promotion in there for the first couple emails).

Audiences

Growing your audience is the reason you do email marketing. Without an audience, you have no one to sell to and therefore no way to make money. To start off, you can grow your audience through sign ups on your business website, you can make a pop up appear, asking if the visitor would like to sign up for email news. This will most likely be your main way of growing your audience.

Another way of increasing your audience is through giving them a discount if they sign up to email news. There are so many other marketing ways to use in order to grow your audience so just try them all out and see what works best. And one more thing, never buy email addresses.

As you can see, a lot goes into email marketing and it takes time to ensure that your email marketing campaign is good enough to keep people interested and subscribed.
